Advocate were delighted to collaborate with Simon de Pinna on his great project The Town and Country Gallery. The Town and Country Gallery provide fine art prints for holiday rentals, and you can now see and order from their new collection of work through their Spring 2013 catalogue! The interactive version of this brochure, which is available here, is organised by theme but is also location specific. So you can rifle through the pages to find a piece of artwork that suits where you’re vacationing perfectly, whether it’s the seaside, in the heart of London, or deep in the countryside.
We’re particularly proud of this joint venture, as a large number of our fantastic art licensing and art for posters artists, as well as some of our photographers, are featured and their work available to buy. Not only that, but our fab in-house design team worked hard to put together and produce the catalogue. It looks pretty amazing, if we do say so ourselves, so a big thank you to Advocate‘s Lauren, Lucas and the rest of the design team for all their hard work!
Advocate Art presents an amazing photographer from Massachusetts, Brenda Kellman. Brenda said she “wanted to capture the beauty that surrounded me”, and her photography does exactly that. As well as being art in its own right her work is also perfect for greeting cards and posters art. The composition and clarity of her work is stunning and breathtaking, definitely check out her portfolio!
I was born outside of Boston, Massachusetts, USA. Growing up in New England was very inspiring for a visual person. I always knew I wanted to capture the beauty that surrounded me in one form or another. I started out painting and drawing but then I discovered the camera. I was hooked. I love composing art thru my viewfinder. I have always been fascinated by black & white. But with the invention of digital photography, I am happy that I can now do both black & white and color.
I hope you enjoy looking at my images as much as I enjoy taking them.
One of Advocate art’s newest photographersBill Hornbostel has recently exhibited his work at The Artist Project in Toronto, Canada. The Artist Project is a big annual show and art sale, featuring around 200 artists. It provides independent artists with a professional platform to showcase and sell their work, attracting high quality art buyers, curators and collectors. It has been running for five years and showcases art mediums including oils, acrylic, glass, mixed media, textiles, sculpture, digital media, glass and photography; to find out more about the show click here to visit their website. Below you can find out more about Bill and visit his page on The Artist Project website by clicking here.
Bill came to photography through a roundabout route. He took some art courses in college, but his main interest in art lay with oil painting and charcoal drawing; the use of the camera was only a minor hobby. Though still a hobby, photography steadily came to eclipse other media. The digital revolution in photography unshackled him from some of the limitations of film, and occasional travel photography gave way to more experimentation and better equipment. It finally overwhelmed his (very brief) stint in a PhD program in ancient history, and Bill is now working fulltime on his exploration of photography.
At Advocate art we are very excited to have made it onto Pinterest, the new social media website that rolls blogging and Flickr all into one! This great new website allows you to ‘pin’ anything to your online pinboard, whether from another website or uploaded straight from your computer. Unlike blogging where you have to scroll through to find what you are looking for, Pinterest has everything on one page so you can pick and choose exactly what you want to look at. We have pinboards for artist biographies, children’s book illustrators, trends and mood boards, book samples, awards and many more! We can’t wait to get everyone involved and following us on Pinterest, click here to visit our page!
We would like to welcome new photographer Charles Lane to Advocate art, who we are very excited to be representing. Charles’s work will be perfect for art licensing and will look great as arty greeting cards. Below you can read all about Charles and view some of his amazing photography. I grew up in rural Hertfordshire, was given my first camera when I was five and was instantly hooked. Photography has been a passion ever since.
What excites me about photography is that juxtaposition between the 1/8000th of a second it can take to record an image and its potential to be timeless and have the ability to evoke any emotion conceivable. That is why great photography is “Art”.
I shoot mainly digital now, although I learnt on film, and I still utilize the skills of patience and care that come from using Ektar 25 and T-Max.
My inspiration comes from landscape greats such as Ansel Adams and James Ravilious and the beauty and insight of Rankin and Bill Henson.
I love the natural world as a subject because it so exciting to the curious minded and my wish now is to shoot portraiture and fashion set in a world of dreams and suspended belief.
When I’m photographing in the studio I listen to anything sung by women (particular favourites are Gabrielle Aplin, Goldfrap, Claire Maguire and Lana Del Rey) or Bach.
To relax I read and watch films. My favourite book is Justin Cronin’s The Passage (you just drift into another world) and my favourite directors are Francis Ford Cappola, Tim Burton and Guillermo del Toro.
I received my first little Kodak camera for my seventh birthday. The film was in a huge big plastic cartridge. I loved taking photos, recording everything. I can remember having to wait a week to get my photos back from being developed in the nearest city.
My first SLR was a Minolta X-370 film camera. Very little on the camera was automatic and it taught me well! My first DSLR opened a new world where I could be more creative.
I took a few courses with a retired photography lecturer, Pine Pienaar. I read everything I can and study the work of well known photographers. At the moment I’m doing a course through The Photography Institute. I also pick the brains of good photographers that I meet.
I have semi-retired myself from teaching Physical Science. I now teach extra lessons part time to school pupils. I love going for long walks, especially along the beach, camera in hand. Living in Port Elizabeth is idyllic. It is a small city, we have the beach and the weather is great. I am married, with two teenage daughters (subjects to practise photography on) and a very old Labrador lives with us.
I was born in 1977 in Cambridge and I continued to live in a lovely village called Barton just outside of Cambridge till 2004. I now live in Gosport overlooking the dockyard at Portsmouth which is lovely. I have been painting and sketching as long as I can remember; there is something relaxing about creating something from nothing!
I was bought my first 35mm SLR camera when I was 12 and fell in love with it – I still have it now and it does come out on the odd occasion! I was self-taught until I went to college in 1996 and gained a BTEC National Diploma with a double specialism in Graphic Design and Photography.
My main influences as an artist are John Constable and Salvador Dali, talk about 2 different ends of the spectrum! Photographic inspiration has to be Ansel Adams’ incredible work!
Outside the artistic field I love to spend time with family and friends. I read a lot but my main interest is travel which I do for work! It gives me access to some amazing places and I try to record everywhere I go. I love listening to music too especially when I’m sketching and I always have my Ipod on when I’m out with my camera.
I have a real passion for capturing the world we live in. In this mad world in which people seem to live at 1000 mph it’s nice to make them stop and think about what’s around us and to take the time to appreciate it.
“It was my pleasure I just love to work with all of you in Advocate-art. Everyone there seems to be very positive and helpful personality and that also make us foreign artists feel like home: very comfortable and cosy working atmosphere
