Kates Adventures!

Wednesday, February 20th, 2013

With Kate just arriving back from her Adventures across the pond, we thought we’d show you what she’s been up to over the past week!

She started off the week at the London Toy Fair, before jetting off to Nuremberg, Germany, for the biggest toy fair in the world! Next stop was New York City for yet another Toy Fair, before heading to a very cold Minnesota, Minneapolis. With a short stopover in Chicago, we finally have Kate back in the Advocate offices! Welcome back, Kate!

Happy Birthday Kate!

Wednesday, September 5th, 2012

This weekend it was children’s book agent Kate’s birthday! We celebrated in the Advocate offices with cake, balloons, a gift, a beautifully illustrated greetings card (of course) and a sing song! Then we celebrated AGAIN! With a fancy dress party, as you can see, some of us made a little more effort than others… Art agent Hannah came dressed as Andy Warhol, very fitting for an illustration agency we think! And Kate was rocking the Lady Gaga look!

Happy Birthday Kate, we hope you had a great time!

Advocate Agent on Santa’s Christmas List

Friday, May 25th, 2012

Here at Advocate we are excited to tell you that some of our Agents are officially on Santa’s Christmas list! Have a look at this beautiful Santa christmas card design by Marcello Corti, if you look very closely you will see that he has included Edward Burns, Kate Johnson, Lesley Carpenter and Hannah Abbo in his design! It may be a while away yet, but we are intrigued to see what presents Father Christmas has in mind for them!.

See more of Marcello’s Santa Claus card illustrations and other work by visiting his portfolio on the advocate website.

Off to the fair!

Tuesday, April 3rd, 2012

Right now in the Advocate offices there are two very grumpy boys with aching arms and one very excited Kate. This can only mean one thing. The crates are back out and Advocate is getting ready to go on the road. In May we are off to Surtex in NewYork! (the crates are getting a bit of a head start). Have a look at our website to see what other shows and fairs we are exhibiting our artist’s work at this year.

Kate’s visit to the USA

Friday, January 27th, 2012

Whilst Kate was in the USA she got a lovely welcome from one children’s book publisher – they put together a welcome board especially for her. Ed is very jealous, as for all the meetings he has been too he hasn’t had his name on a felt board for 20 years and Kate is straight on there! Below you can see the publishers pouring over the work, eagerly browsing the children’s book folios . It is great to see what Kate gets up to in her meetings and it just goes to show how important it is to keep your folio updated. So keep the work coming – we are constantly showing it off!

Kate visits Americas Mart, Atlanta

Monday, January 16th, 2012

Kate has been sending us photos from the US everyday, so we have been kept thoroughly up to date with how her trip is going! She spent a day at America’s Mart, Atlanta: America’s leading home furnishings and area rug marketplace and the largest trade mart/tradeshow complex of it’s kind in the world. It comprises of 4 buildings, making up a total of 7.7 million square feet! As you can see from the photo below  - it’s something else isn’t it? With 15 annual shows it draws in 548,000 attendees every year. Kate has shot plenty of reference material – from christmas to everyday, stylish, vintage and retro – there are lots of ideas for greeting cards and designs for products. She also spotted Advocate artists work on a huge poster (see the photo below Kate).

Thursday, January 12th, 2012

Kate is updating us everyday with how she is getting on with all her meetings in the US, today she sent us a picture of her wheels! – Rather nice we think.

Kate is in Boston!

Wednesday, January 11th, 2012

Our senior agent Kate is jet setting around the US this week, spending a few days in Boston before flying to Atlanta, meeting with lots of clients and showing off our illustrators fantastic work. The grand entrance of this publishing house was slightly daunting for Kate’s first meeting! Obviously it’s not called The Big Fat Publishing House, but we don’t want to give too much information away just in case our competitors are reading . . . !

One lot of clients were so happy with our level of service and loved our illustrators so much that they treated her to lunch . . . a new thing for Kate this year – fig pizza!

Sarah Horne, one of Advocate’s best selling children’s illustrators was there with Caryl Hart, author of one her recently illustrated books Rhino? What Rhino? From the photos it looks like they all had a great time!
