Kate Leake Biography

Sunday, March 27th, 2011

Kate Leake is a full time freelance illustrator represented by Advocate Art Illustration Agency, based in the sunny city of Stoke-on-Trent, where she has lived since she was a dot.

Since graduating with a degree in Illustration for Children’s Publishing in 2004, Kate has been happily scribbling away in her (slightly untidy, but very colourful) studio, working on a variety of projects.  Her most unusual and challenging, was to create a large mural for a wall in a coffee lounge.

Over the years, Kate has had numerous greetings cards and children’s books published, a number of which have won or been shortlisted for awards.

Kate’s work is all drawn with the old trusty pencil, and developed in Photoshop, combining both hand produced and digital techniques.  Her illustrations are generally quirky with a child-like edge, and often lots of little details.

Kate loves collecting fun and fabulous children’s books from other countries, and draws inspiration from her own childhood experiences, places she visits and her own imagination (which can be a particularly interesting place!)

When not busy doodling, Kate likes to play the saxophone, and go for lovely long and adventurous walks (preferably where there is a mountain, a castle and a strawberry picnic to be found!)

Advocate Has Moved!

Tuesday, March 22nd, 2011
Thats right last week  Advocate moved offices!
We’ve outgrown our Wimbledon offices, and decided to move somewhere with a bit more elbow room. And, luckily, we’ve been given the chance to take over the old HSBC bank in Ashtead!
Where?
Well, it’s a nice small town within the M25 – not quite London, but near. It’s conveniently located – close to the airports,  motorway links to Bath and Oxford for publisher meetings, easy access to the M1 for Yorkshire greeting card publishers and only 37 minutes away from the centre of London (and the universe!).
It’s twice as big and is looking great.
our new address is:
56 The Street,
Ashtead,
Surrey
