Jim Mitchell is an English based illustrator specialising in greeting cards and older children’s illustration. Born in Stoke on Trent, growing up in a Just William styled home, family, upbringing lifestyle in a Staffordshire country village. Wandering round woods and ditches with a pointed stick and bow and arrow. He now lives in Dorset with his wife and two grown up daughters.
As a child he was influenced by all sorts of Military history and aviation, he always thought it was the drawing that mattered and not especially what you drew. His uncle designed the spitfire, from this Jim drew spitfires from a young age. His father was a ceramic transfer artist which he found a personal inspiration.
Jim did a degree in Graphics and Illustration. He usually works in watercolour with gouache over the top, coloured pencil over the top and then pastel over the top, but what he finds most important is starting with an understanding of the subject. Jim was declared the most promising newcomer by the Aviation artist Frank Wooten.
Jim also enjoys collecting old toy soldiers as well as armour and antique weapons. He has a wide interest in every aspect of English Civil wars. If he was not an illustrator he would be walking round English Civil war battlefields giving lectures.
If you would like to see more of Jim’s work please visit his online portfolio here.

Vince Verma aka “V” is an English based Illustrator/ Designer/ Photographer. His training is in photo-realistic drawing where he studied traditional illustration techniques now rarely seen commercially.
Born in Devon in 1978 in an Artistic Community, his parents who were also professional illustrators (his father from India – a Marvel Comic Artist, his mother from London – a Botanical illustrator). V has been drawing from the outset, he shares this passion from his parents and was influenced by the artists in the community. Schooled from home, which included long art sessions of Art related courses, he has benefited from an education rarely seen with other children.
Now living in remote North Yorkshire he has been running a small studio of like minded illustrators for the last 10 years. Vendetta Arts creates high-end digital illustration for game concept art, advertising campaigns and character design. They also supply audio production services and sound design. www.vendetta-arts.com .
Recently V has been focusing more on his own work, taking his drawing and painting to new unreal levels of realism.
Vince thinks Technology is allowing digital special effects, amazing high end illustration and audio to break boundaries like never before, this is something that V and Vendetta Arts are all passionate about, pushing the boundaries – right to the end. V himself will only scan and email, grounding the Vendetta to the origins of illustration and reminding the co-workers of the world before the microchip.

Advocate Art Illustration Agency has yet another super talented artist to add to its ranks in the form of Finland Native Ossi Hiekkala.
Ossi has provided a short bio for all of our followers to enjoy.
“I specialize in certain areas. For example one of them being the illustrations of berries, fruits and other food products for the package designs. It has worked pretty well as there are not too many illustrators in Finland who are interested in doing those. Finland does not have a great market so competition is quite high. Luckily most of the illustrators work for editorial illustrations which at least in Finland are mostly done quickly and are not so realistic. That is why I have approached the customers who are most likely interested in detailed and realistic illustrations, the advertisement agencies and book publishers.
I have a two major techniques: acrylics and digital. For the food illustrations I use only acrylics as I think that digital techniques will look too artificial. For other subjects I can use either, depending on what the customer wants or which one would suit the work better. For digital styles I have been developing more “natural” looking techniques. Again, the style is often decided with the customer. I work hard to make sure I do not have unsatisfied customers.
The reason for joining Advocate is that I do not have experience of marketing in international markets and it is quite impossible to monitor all the copyrights by myself. I trust that the agency has a knack of knowing their customer base and seeing what kind of works sell. For example, I thought that realistically rendered cute animal characters would be a rage in Finland, but it has not been so. What works in other countries might not work in Finland and vice versa. This is where I believe an experienced agency has a lot to say. I am willing to develop my portfolio for the demands of the markets. I have pretty good understanding of my strengths and weaknesses as an illustrator, so I would not for example market myself as a technical illustrator”

Yet another exceptionally talented children’s book illustrator has joined the Advocate family – Sophia Touliatou
As a kid, she dreamed of having her own kiosk, so she could eat one chocolate after another without any interruption. She enjoyed school and still has very good friends from back then. She has a degree in Graphic Design but she mostly illustrates children books - for many of which she has gained merits and awards
She has a passion for dogs, sugar and CocoRosie. She would like to go to the movies every other day. She lives in the centre of Athens which she loves particularly, and considers Spain as her second homeland. She’s afraid of planes, wonders if it will ever snow and dreams of the day that she’ ll attend Bologna Childrens Bookfair.
We hope you enjoy her work as much as we do

Advocate Art are very excited to announce the addition of Carly Ashdown to our agency, with several pieces of her extraordinary work hanging proudly on the walls of the Advocate Gallery.
Carly Ashdown is a mixed-media artist working out of studios in both London and Bristol, UK. With the human form as her main subject matter, she uses paint and other media to create a myriad of emotions which echo the human experience.
Carly has always been driven by a deep interest in understanding people and their lives. All of her childhood drawings focused on human interaction and emotions and this influence only grew stronger with the passing years. After completing an arts degree in Leeds in 2004 she focused herself on a new educational path studying and training in Counselling and Psychotherapy at the Tavistock Institute, London. Feeling a deep kinship to the questioning minds of philosopher Alan Watts and comedian Bill Hicks, Carly was inspired to explore her own relationship to life and particularly the idea of personal transformation. These explorations of how we have come to understand ourselves, the world and our place in it, have deeply influenced her art.
Alan Watts was once quoted as saying ‘Reality is only a Rorschach ink-blot, you know’ cutely capturing the essence of Carly’s own ideas; ‘We tend to limit ourselves through our fixed perceptions, my work is an invitation to step into a way of perceiving beyond what we know in our everyday lives.’
