Advocate had a blast at Bologna Children’s Book Fair! We saw lots of amazing artwork, a bunch of friendly faces, and spotted some pictures by our lovely artists on some great stalls. Here are some photos we took of art we saw by children’s illustrators Bill Bolton, Ksenia Topaz, Tom Percival, Steph Hinton and Simon Mendez. To see more of their art for children’s books and other work, visit their online portfolios on our website!

With Kate just arriving back from her Adventures across the pond, we thought we’d show you what she’s been up to over the past week!
She started off the week at the London Toy Fair, before jetting off to Nuremberg, Germany, for the biggest toy fair in the world! Next stop was New York City for yet another Toy Fair, before heading to a very cold Minnesota, Minneapolis. With a short stopover in Chicago, we finally have Kate back in the Advocate offices! Once again Book Expo America, the largest annual book trade fair in the United States took place at the Javits Center in New York City, with great success! Advocate’s exposure is growing from Strength to Strength with a noticeable increase in face to face appointments made prior to the show, as well as some quality pop on appointments by new and exciting potential clients.
Our stand is certainly not something that can be missed with its Bright red cafe style appearance, and of course my welcoming smile! And our captivating portfolios of artists keeping them glued to their seats. We entertained such clients as Disney, Nickelodeon, Capstone, Tigertales, Sterling, Houghton Mifflin, Harper Collins, Viz and National Geographic to name but a few of the significant book publishers that came along from the United States, and many from abroad too.

It was a great success and I look forward to the projects that come off the back of Book Expo and the new Relationships I have formed.

From Monday 28th to Thursday 31st March, the cream of the publishing industry descend upon their Mecca, from author to agent, illustrators and publishers’, packagers to printers, Bologna Children’s Book Fair is the pinnacle of our publishing calendar.
We at Advocate are proud to say that Bologna 2011 is our 10th year of exhibiting, where we grow from strength to strength with between 70 to 100 face-to-face meetings direct with the industry’s best publishing houses. It is also where we generate and gather new contacts whilst strengthening relationships with our clients in turn generating/handling 2 million dollars worth in art commissioning on a global scale. This is the reason why we are Britain’s largest illustration agency – we are proud of the fact that we are the only illustration agent to take space amongst all the publishers where we are able to grab the attention of the 1300 exhibitors coming from 67 countries and countless visitors to the show. The Bologna Children’s Book Fair is the most important international event dedicated to the children’s publishing industry and Advocate are there at the heart showcasing the best of the illustration industry. For this, the 47th Bologna fair, we are launching new portfolios from Steve Wood, Genie Espinosa, Sophie Escabasse and Natasha Kuricheva. We look forward to seeing you at Hall 25 A159.

We revised a little our trend forecasts after talking to art directors and seeing the huge amount of new products on the market. I don’t believe we had anything wrong, but felt that 2 trends that we forecast could be split further to create 2 new topics that you might find interesting. These are uploaded onto Resources already with a ton of product pics so please check it out.
Also see “Whats inspiring us now” on the blog where we have uploaded the new topics.
