Advocate Art illustration agency is now representing new artist Estelle Corke. Estelle’s drawings convey a childlike warmth and happiness and is definitely well suited for young childrens books. Read Estelle’s biography below and check out her portfolio of work on the Advocate website.
As a child, I enjoyed the wonderful children’s books of the day,’The Very Hungry caterpillar, ‘Raymond Briggs Nursery Rhymes’ and ‘The Mr Men’, to name a few. I think this began my love for the illustrations that I used to scrutinise; some of Raymond’s characters used to frighten me a bit! I have always loved drawing, and as a child, spent many a happy hour copying my parents surreal, Pink Floyd album covers. Thankfully, I moved on from that! I did my A-levels, went to Bath Spa University College and got a degree in illustration. Since leaving college I began my career in advertising, food packaging and magazine illustration which gave me a great grounding for technique, diversity and most importantly, deadline keeping. However, in the last 10 years or so, I have returned to my first love, children’s books. I paint conventionally with gouache or watercolours in a painterly style and I love stories with a bit of gentle humour or quirkiness.
